About Monsters - a Poem

Monster Under My Bed

There's a monster under my bed
That's his home but I never see
He haunts me day and night.  I fear
What will he do, devours the best

Monster 'neath my bed has no name
Had he one, it I wouldn't say
Been said he eats small girls alive
Keep quiet, eyes closed, try to sleep

There's a monster under my bed
He drives me insane, thoughts of him
How do I know he's really there
My brother told me long ago

There's a monster down there I know
Every night, way to end my day
Mother said my monsters aren't real
Perhaps they aren't but still I look

Kerry's theme was "Monsters".  She said, "I leave you with the famous words spoken by Iago in Othello:  "O beware, my lord, of jealousy; It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meet it feeds on,"  And a music video.."

  3. I was never worried about what was under the bed but after reading the MR James story 'I'll Come To You, My Lad', I was terrified about what might be under the covers!

  5. I had to get my mother to check each night, but the real monster was my brother who suggested they were there! This took me back a few years Jim.

  6. Like this very much, Jim...It's different in some way, but I don't know what. Reads well aloud. And there are STILL monsters under our beds regardless our age.

  7. This reminds me of when I was young and afraid to climb out of bed in the dark in case a monster grabbed my ankle.

  8. Now that I am older I do wonder how small those monsters under the bed must have been.
