Spirits, hobs, nymphs, sylphs ~~ a Poem, mixed and matched and melded

(Thinking of the night just ended, futile
  Futility, chasing demons away)

Spirits, troubled,

Spirits, troubled, live in the tree
Dead tree, home for hobs and sylphs
The nymps emerge, happy they dance
While the spirits broil in the tree

Nymph mother and spirit father
Hollowed this tree hallowed it be
The sylps renew and cleanse by night
While the hobs roam spreading doom

Spirit father, nymph mother, they
Meld, mold them by pairs, life goes on

  1. I like to think of trees as having guardian spirits in them.

  2. All this going on while we were elsewhere asleep, gone when we wake. Thanks for bringing these spirits home.

  3. There is nothing more likely to be magic than the hollow of a tree.

  5. Jim, of course I'm ready to join the dance of nymphs -- but why are the spirits of the trees troubled? They are the old, ever-present protectors of the forest -- where other creatures of night make their homes. Thanks for sharing some whimsy. :-)

  7. Hmm even in the tree realm, there is character and personality. This is quite interesting, takes me back to my youthful fairy tales days

    much love...

  8. There is science about how trees talk to one another. I like to think of them as guardians, of pairings.

  9. "Hollowed this tree, hallowed it be...." I love this incantation, Jim.

  10. Jim, I am amazed at the quote you quoted in your comment on my poem. "God is the white fairy who can make wars cease." I had no idea such magical lines were in the Bible and am thrilled to know it. Thanks so much. I think I should do more Bible reading.

  11. Jim, this is fanciful! Trees do, I believe, have spirits and relationships with one another. The Tibetan monks have been known to give old-growth trees the title of monk, so they cannot be cut down. Thanks for this, and thx for stopping by my blog. Sorry i have not been back until now! Amy
