"Walking the Thames" -- a Kikôbun (travel journal with Poem) -- Carpe Diem

.
.
Walking the Thames . . . . . .

Mrs. Jim, our Grand-daughter KP, and I
walked the Thames from Vauxhall to the
London Eye.  Mrs. Jim and I love to walk
the rivers. The River Seine in Paris and
the Thames in London are our favorites.

On this day KP did some of her walking the
tops of the walls lining the sidewalk.  That
wasn't super easy and oft times she would
have to get down and portage, go around.

Today she met the dark
Under Westminster Bridge
Scary trolls beneath
Safe above, Grandpa below
He fought off the trolls for her

Reached destination
Needed a ticket to ride
Then views from the sky
 Next to Westminster Station
Tube to home, had walked two miles

What's a Kikobun?  "The Japanese literary travel journal (kikôbun) has been closely related to poetry. It characteristically weaves poems and the introductory narratives in a sequential order."  I used two tanka verses to complete with poetry.

Note:  On the upper map, Vauxhall is at the bottom with the London Eye at the top, both bordering the Thames River.  The top picture was taken from KP's flat looking South along the Thames.  Our journey would be North.  Walking up was 1.3 miles, 0.3 miles walking around the site, and another 0.4 miles to the Tube Station at Westminster for our ride back to Vauxhall.

What a sweet walk to do. Rivers and shores are excellent places to walk.

Aw, what a lovely journey!! GrandPa fought the trolls and everyone was happy:) I realize the brief trip years ago in London, I have so much to see walking...how scared of getting lost in my 20's and would relish the adventure now. Nicely written and love the photos!!
