One Single Impression: Conquer (an acrostic)

Conquer It
what ails me
(an acrostic)
Common colds prevail.
Orneriness and ale ... .
Near sightedness, pills.
Queasiness and ills .....
Under bed monster ....
Elder aged and weak ..
Retirement's bleak .....

  1. Jim you nailed it ... these are things I am having problems conquering. I have been very ill for the last week, and it started with a bad sinus attack.

I am going to link this acrostic for Prompt #7, it's good!

  3. Love the humor! I hope you conquer them all, though I have a feeling you will not conquer age and time!

  4. There's always lots to conquer, and humour is one of the best ways.

  5. Jim,

...it's hard to conquer the inevitable, you know!, try as you may, but hope writing this has lifted your spirits up, anyway...

    nice day Jim...!:)

  7. Jim, I like the format of your poem. Some things, like fears, can be conquered. Others, like age, can ultimately only be conquered (today) by our attitude towards it. Nice.

  8. I can relate to this today, to be sure, Jim.

If it is autobiographical, I hope you feel better soon.

  10. What a wonderfully clever take...getting older has so many challenges, doesn't it? Your take on this made me smile (and relate!). :~)

  12. thank you so much for that good laugh!! Your verses remind me of a "cure" I learned in college called the "two hat" cure. Mull some wine (hot with spices and orange peel), then place a hat on one post of your bed, retire within, and drink your wine until two hats appear -- then sleep it off. Never actually tried it -- was actually more fond of a "hot lemonade and whisky" cure. :)

  13. Jim,

    Thanks for the chuckles.

One thing for sure as it has been said before..."old age is not for wimps"

  14. Oh. It might even be unconquerable! There is always humor - you do that well!

About the Ides of October - they call the summer down with bolts and black skies. It's more about words that please me than any direct or linear meaning - just kind of skating with words.

  18. Hi Jim. I had to come back after reading your very nice comment on Zorro's haiku. Our Buddy was catching 1-3 snakes a day — very large and long garter snakes (all documented on the blog). But one day a snake bit him in the eye and Buddy went blind in that eye for about 2 weeks. It is all healed now but he is slower (or just older? because he's pretty old) and my daughter the vet tech says she does not think he can see as well as he did in that eye. So be careful! Although, I really don't know how you can stop a cat from doing anything s/he wants to do!

  21. Ah Jim, we are both getting old. This was excellent. Your witty words go a long way. Besides making it an acrostic poem no less. Bravo my friend.
BTW, I am having trouble with my URL again and had to change its name. My new name is:
