A Poem -- Summer sees, Summer comes

Summer sees

Summer looks out from under her covers
Not liking what she sees closes her eyes
That's not much help crawls back under the sheets
But will this printscreen view ruin her day

World turned upside down burning trees and grass
There's blackened waters and fish are dying
Crops won't grow burning hot in midsummer
Acrid air is burning all creatures' lungs

Ice caps and glaciers are melting away
Towns are flooding water cycle keeps on
Elephants are slayed for their body parts
Price of a giraffe trophy mere snapshot

People killing each other wonder why

Ingrained that way for their own selfish gain
Killing by guns killing by stroke of pen
Much much more another desolate year

Summer came

  1. Oh Jim ,such a sad poem but so very true. I took the opposite approach today and wrote about peace.

  3. Ouch, and summer should not be any of this. Great platform for making this point and excellent writing.

  5. I think that sometimes we only see the dark... I hope there are good things as well.

The summer don't care about us, it just is.

  6. I try not to look too hard at our desolation...it would overwhelm me. I get where summer's coming from...trying to crawl back under the sheets. well crafted!

  7. I often wonder whether this planet was created to house all the worst or most unsuitable living creations. Maybe it is the testing ground for development of planets in the future. We stupidly think we are the best yet by showing how needy and wasteful we are, will unlikely ever to get the managerial nod for better things.

There never seems to be a let-up in the destruction and conflicts afflicting the world. Focus seems to have shifted to the East to draw away from the Middle East and with no immediate conclusion.

  9. I don't blame Summer for crawling back under the sheets. As I keep saying, when is humankind gong to learn from its mistakes?

  10. I can see how nature can grow incredulous at our self-destruction. We never learn.

  11. Yeah, it really feels like this, it really is like this. I like how "printscreen" turns up unexpectedly in this, too.
