Thinking tonight
Tonight as I lay here and cannot sleep
I think of what my mother has taught me
I tried to get to sleep by counting sheep
My trouble is there are no sheep to see
When the sandman is saying no sleep yet
And I'm so tired, I take my mom's advice
And I'm so tired, I take my mom's advice
She taught me a trick I will not forget
If I really want to sleep shut my eyes

Note: We have a couple's marriage story about this. I don't ever remember my mother teaching me but
once when I could not sleep Mrs. Jim told me to close my eyes. I acted as if I
had never heard or known of this help before. It has been a joke between us for
many, many years now. "Oh yes, I must close my eyes."

I guess so, I've never seen an insomniac cat. This is cute.
ReplyDeleteWell, I didn't have a picture of a tired "me" so figured the cat in my bag would do. You are right, I think cats can al always sleep.

He, he, he, yes closing your eyes helps. :0)
ReplyDeleteI wish it were that easy for me... It must be nice to be a cat.
ReplyDeleteI feel for the sleepless ones. I shut my eyes, and still my brain won't switch off.
ReplyDeleteclosing eyes - I'll try that. nothing else has much worked recently
ReplyDeleteHi Jim, I'm sorry about Katrin, it is so hard when our loved ones our ill, furry and smooth skinned. The MRI was for me though, MS has been flaring. Our Ellie is doing pretty well these days, I appreciate your comment and empathy for our sweet girl.
ReplyDeleteI'm an insomniac, so I can relate. :)

Good for people who get sleep very rarely.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I remember my grandma saying that to me when I was a kid - 'Shut your eyes and go to sleep!' ;o)
ReplyDeleteIndeed, your mother was wise...close your eyes! Cute poem, Mr. Jim.
ReplyDeleteLove this! I had to remind my son to close his eyes when he was little. :-)
ReplyDeletehahahahahha.... love that... I should try it the next time I find myself too awake!
ReplyDeleteCats are more tricky than dogs who really have deep sleeps. Cats on the the other hand have cat naps and appear to be aware even then. What a great photo Jim.
ReplyDeleteI loved this Jim! it reminds me so much of me, sometimes I have a very difficult time quieting my mind, and closing my eyes, so that I can relax and fall asleep. All too often I find myself popping up to check a message on my phone, or make a note of something I forgot, and then the phone light wakes me and I must start all over again to fall asleep! I really think it would be nice if we came with a "power down" switch! Great TST post, love the kitty too. You can't ever go wrong with a kitty picture! :-)
ReplyDeleteAdorable. First things, first. :)
ReplyDeleteJim, this is priceless. My mom had loads of advice she got from my grandma Blanche. My favorite: "The things you worry about most never happen. So go ahead and worry... and then do something fun."
ReplyDeleteI, too, have insomnia, sometimes from meds, you know me. I have a mantra and have taken to saying it to myself in different voices (and accents! My Gandhi is great) and writing it out in different fonts, etc. That usually bores me to slumber, but there are more nights when I sit up and read a book until I get drowsy.
I love you mom's words, and you're a fab son to share them with us! Amy
Lol, that's what I always do when I am really exhausted, but can't fall asleep, I just close my eyes. It works every time! : )
ReplyDeleteGood Night, Cat. Meow! :)
