"Time of Covid"
Time of COVID
Mrs J wasn't feeling well
That fateful day we're on our cruise
Seeking medicine she called in
The infirmary's man came
Thermometer and a test pouch
Temperature fine, blood pressure too
But the test pouch said COVID big
Grabbed her things she was whisked away
Next thing she knew room of her own
Quarentine and flu medicine
I, her husband, tested each day
Day five was told go to your room
Pack your things join your wife, COVID
Ten days it was then, lesser now
Cruise over landed South Hampton
Hotel room we'd finish our time
What now is on my mind? Let's see
Lost my taste, smell, some memory
Congestion still, won't go away
My wifey did better better than I
There is another man we talked
Talked with him before quarentined
He was sitting close to the stairs
We were close, did he get COVID??
. . .

That is what was scary - the time one was symptomatic before diagnosis, and how it spread during those days..........I didnt catch it during those years, but did get a very mild dose of it last year. I have received many booster shots, which helped me get through it very easily.
Wow, Covid got both of you! Loss of senses is a big deal, Jim. I've never seen it captured in a poem before. I guess people try to forget, but OH so many died and you lived to tell about it. A blessing.
Cruises were a hotbed for Covid back then. In fact, I still know people today who come back from cruises with Covid. I am glad that both you and your wife survived. Wondering -- do you have long Covid as a result?
I am glad you both recovered and are still doing well - Jae
Yes, Jim, I caught COVID late, even after having several vaccinations. Fortunately, I survived it without getting too nasty a disease and none of the residual effects. However, my father succumbed to COVID and that marked me in a deep and long-lasting way...
How scary that must have been! On a cruise!! Thank God you both have survived. This is the first time I am reading someone who had Covid-19 while on a cruise.
We all heard about the cruise cases, I'm so sorry you were part of that. Miserable not be miserable at home. I had COVID in 2023, sickest I've ever been, and that was after all the available boosters. I wonder if I'd be here if I hadn't.
I'm glad you are doing well now! Nice poem.
Glad you seem to be on the mend. It's not fun.
Oh these were horrible times Must be hard to get it on a cruise, and the rooms will not be particularly large I guess.
Yes, it was a beast of thing in those ear ly days, and even later. Luckily, knowing I was at risk because of age and a residual (controlled) respiratory condition, I made sure to get well vaccinated. I did get it once, a year or so ago, but got onto it straight away and fortunately it was mild and brief. My poor son, on the other hand, got long COVID, and it doesn't look like getting better after a couple of years; he can only manage it.
How frightening for you! Am very glad all is well now. Reading folks' comments here too, you've obviously struck a nerve in everyone's recollections.
A terrible experience but thankfully you both survived and lived to tell the tale. Happy Birthday for next week. ...not many of us make 92...that makes you special:)
