We came late into the game
Game of life men were playing
We had grown, our dolls did not
But we had learned woman's work
We cleaned we cooked and we sewed
If money was tight we taught
Loved Rosie the Riveter**
She taught us to be ourselves
No more a slave to our man

Fair commentary, Jim. Not even female poets were given much credit 100 years ago.. let alone photographers.
ReplyDeleteSadly there still exists a male trend to humiliate women for doing things that were once predominately in their preserve. It seems that attitude will take a long time to break as it exists in many supposedly advanced and equal(?) places in the world.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you, like Björn, have written from a female perspective. We may have come late into the game but we didn’t waste time once we did.
ReplyDeleteThis is brimming with courage and chivalry, Jim! ❤️
ReplyDeleteI think if credit was given, it rarely lasted... I have read about female composers who were famous as long as they were alive and then hidden away...
ReplyDeleteGirl power! Love it..."no more a slave to our man'...bravo!
ReplyDeleteShe taught us to be ourselves
ReplyDeleteNo more a slave to our man
It tallies very much with the image Dr Jim! It reiterates a sense of purpose followed through by making inroads into a male domain. Determination shows up - very much in evidence in the way of her looks.
Hank
Yes, the beauty of women's independence...love this
ReplyDeleteI like the title you gave this poem, Jim. Determination comes through quite well.
ReplyDeleteYay, good for her
