a Poem for Tuesday ~~ Not what it may seem

Coffee, fig preserves

A stain on the sheets
Breakfast in bed
Not what it may seem
Not even play

I have no answer
for you today
Coffee, fig preserves
Toast was blackened

A stain on the sheets
I have no answer
Not what it may seem
Coffee, fig preserves

Breakfast in bed
For you today
Not even play
Toast was blackened

  1. Sounds like a lazy cold morning dear Jim!

  2. I started this ditty a while back and pulled it out for finishing today. I wanted it to be ambiguous and having little or no intrinsic or redeeming value. Except for a smile and an insight to my ever working brain.

  3. This is INCREDIBLE!!! I LOVE that it's ambiguous, with this being the centerpiece and yummy/happy line: "Coffee, fig preserves."

I'm feeling like someone died --- maybe the speaker --- and stained the sheets with blood, vomit, etc. He's being dry about it, to a degree that it's almost funny. "Well, I guess I messed up breakfast with my nasty little death." :)

  4. The repetition works so well to preserve the element of ambiguity :) Excellent write, Jim 💞

  5. Ah, I really enjoyed that repetition too creating linkages between all these stanzas. The ambiguity is pleasing and evoking a sense of wonder. "Toast was blackened" speaks to me of discontentment, but we still nibble on the same. Well penned!

  6. I had a puzzled smile reading this, and then I read your comment about the ambiguity. You've certainly achieved your goal. Love it!

  7. So that's your brain is it Jim? It reminded me of the odd times my brain is so fuddled it is best to stay inside and keep silent!
