One Single Impression: Migration

Migration Interrupted

I was wakened early one fall morning
by the strangest ruckus I'd ever heard.
Nothing was there to see when I appeared
except this forlorn lonely little bird.

He was lying on the lawn, near the bush
where the old grey ringneck dove makes her nest.
Took him for dead, I went for my shovel.
In the garden I'd dig his final rest.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw,
I saw his blinking, blinking teary eye.
So tired was he, love of the living God.
Poor little creature fallen from the sky.

He'd lost his way, fell away from the skein.
He couldn't keep up 'cause he was so small.
The other young birds were strong and healthy,
but late in time he was born in the fall.

I carried that young one into my home,
fed and nourished him with birdseed and worms.
Exercise and sleep now primed for release.
Come spring he'll join his kind, the flock returns.

Please wish him well as this is not the norm,
birds in captivity making the grade.
Wish him to live happy ever after,
with his folks. No longer here in his cage.

One Single Impression: Creative

Creative and Clever
Old Man

He's so creative they said.
Clever devil too they add.*
Talking about an old man,
a man of seventy some.

What's so special about him?
Nothing you wouldn't do if,
if you could. Father a kid,
this man of seventy some.

One Single Impression: Reincarnation

Reincarnation Woes

If I were a foo bird
a little fooie you I'd tell.
I'd tell you how to fly
even though I can't fly myself.

Now you ask, "why you can't?"
I'd go on and on 'bout my sails.
Strung high above the bilge,
up and over seas not, they've failed.

You say "why did you try?"
Fooie me I believed I could.
Foo bird's soulful remorse,
"ne'er did exist a foo." Poor bird.

Goodbye forever now
you little feathered fooie foul.
Loser, alas, I've picked,
lying here in my box of wood.

Acrostic: Stalker

STALKING was her game

Twisted thoughts had she

Aimed her bow my way

Likened to a leach

Kinky thoughts they were

Ears her fetish stuff

Rare and bloody—mine

One Single Impression: Shift in Time

A Down Shift in Time

Caught between the eighteen wheeler
and a Ford truck with horse trailer—
he hit the gas, went down to third
and made his shift in time, superb.

Where was his hot Ferrari steed
when in his scary time of need?
He pulled that Caddy to the side
a prayer of thanks to God he said.

Now driving home, he changed his course,
he's glad to be alive no worse.
Making that down shift changed his mind
Las Vegas was a waste of time.
