One Single Impression: Blue

Blue, Mama Said

mama said dress nice
mother knows best I am sure
don't match blue and green

mama said no red
yes blue remember the bull
wearing red excites

- - - - - - - - - - -

mama said keep friends
be faithful and true to them
you'll have true blue friends

- - - - - - - - - - -

mama said don't bore
blue is stuffy and stodgy
don't go on and on

A Naughty Dog -- MidWeek Blues -- Toothpaste tube demise

Please scroll down two posts for my Sunday poem
One Single Impression: Allow
Today I have a guest writer, my 12-year-old granddaughter, BP.

The setting:
BP, daughter Karen, SIL Billy, and newest grandchild, KP, were visiting for the weekend.

BP was using my office for her room. That was nice for her as my couch is a hide-a-bed.

Our little dog, Katrin then sneaked into her room and got into mischief.

This BP ably relates in her story here:

Rest in Peace, My Dear Toothpaste

A normal day for one to behold. An average day in comparison to the normality of the life we face. Then, it happened. Katrin disappeared; we did not think twice, we assumed to play. A fatal mistake, as you will soon find out why.

Suddenly, a ripping noise, the sound of shredding, worse than nails on a chalkboard. I raced towards the noise, that terrible noise. Katrin sat on the couch, eating my toothpaste like ice cream. The end of the tube was torn to Smithereens. Blue gel flowed out like water, only soon to be licked up by Katrin.

The bag, my toothpaste's only protection, his bodyguard, lay fatally injured, never to hold and protect once again!

So may you rest in peace, my dear toothpaste, or would rest in pieces be more appropriate?

All thanks to that menace of a toothpaste killer, murder of cavity fighting goodness, Katrin.

One Single Impression: Allow -- An Acrostic

Not allowed:

Allow is a word I don't like.
Leave this be you need my permit.
Left hand lane for passing only .
Oral or print, mostly spoken;
Words of no I have come to hate.

Allow is a word of control.
Let me tell you one time, you can't ...
Like you have a brain, then use it.
Oral, spewed from demeaning mouth,
Words, wanting cruel authority.

I can't allow that.

Rise up in this blue? -- MidWeek Blues -- This and that

Please scroll down one post for my Sunday poem
One Single Impression: Copse

These are a conglomerate of SOME of my this week's Monday activities. On Monday I saw my cardiologist at the Houston Medical Center. We decided to postpone putting in another stent, this time to my left kidney. It is about 50% blocked but we will watch it and I will come back in December for another sonogram.

This pretty blue high rise was on my way for a lunch engagement with my granddaughter.

This nice old house was on McGreggor Blvd. The neighborhood is going down some but the house still are grand considering their day.

This was a half way decent poker hand, a full house, as shown on my Mustang odometer. It had 50K on it when I got it as a three-year-old in 2001. 30,000 miles on a car in eight years is pretty small considering I drive around in the U.S. fourth largest city (6,000,000 plus metropolitan area population) of Houston, Texas.

And now for a peek at the granddaughter. This is Jenna, she is a senior Marketing (Supply Chain Distribution major, Finance minor) student at the University of Houston. We are soooooo proud of Jenna, she is making wonderful grades too.

Her picture here is in front of the Finance Association student organization. She is Corporate Relations officer, first after the vice president in ranking. Last year she was Community Relations Officer and did a really bang up job with that.

We had lunch at Niko Niko's Greek Restaurant and then came to the U of H bookstore where Grandpa got out his credit card. Afterwards she showed me the new Business Administration building. It sure did beat the old one where I spent so much time working for my B.S. in Economics degree.

We are all so proud of Jenna. Way to Go Girl! Oh yes, she invited me to the Rice/U of H football game with her too. Can't beat that.

One Single Impression: Copse

.
Copse

I'll let you out here
home is on the other side
just stroll through the copse

if you should be lost
pray to God He'll show the Way
you'll end up in church

The Blahs -- MidWeek Blues -- The birds and the grub

Please scroll down a couple for OSI.

But first an updated picture of our new grandbaby, KP.

Today she is four weeks old, this was taken yesterday by Karen.

Ain't she cute!

The birds. Why would this picture make me blue? Or make anybody blue? Well, may be it wouldn't. This just isn't my idea of escaping the harsh Midwestern winters.

The birds? We call them snow birds. They come down here in the warm when it is snowy and cold up north. They bring their own homes (make their own nests). They blend in when there isn't anything doing with 'their kind.'

The grub? Birds must eat. One reason they like it here is because of the proximity to the necessities, such as groceries, Jack-in-the-Box (plus a half dozen other fast food, NO BURGER KING) and gasoline. This shopping center is six miles east on the Interstate Highway, IH-45.

And I say 'here' because the RV trailer park is less than a mile on east from our home. It generally fills in the winter.

The Blahs? Definition # 2 : plural [perhaps influenced in meaning by blasé] : a feeling of boredom, lethargy, or general dissatisfaction

One Single Impression: Ocean

In the post following this is my first attempt at writing a prose poem. Prose poem writing is harder than I thought and I was not real pleased with the outcome.
Also, it sounds boastful which I may or may not change later. Changing will be hard as it tells of the Oceans and Seas I've visited. Telling this is the reason I posted it now.

Ocean Hopping
None to All in Seventy-eight Years

Water he loved when he was a boy
Boats, bits of trash sailed his watery course
Rivers he'd seen from the Route 10 bridge
Oceans he read those far away lands

His book came true when he was fifteen
Grandmother then lived in Oregon
Clams on the beach digging in the sand
Pacific there dipped his tippie toe

Travelling fellow out to see this world
Conquering the seas spending his dollar
Now past his prime three seas an ocean
Not seen nor swum those elusive four

Ocean Southern he'll do that alright
Andaman Sea, Japan, and Okhotsk ...
Slowing fast—gone—mind his final wish
His ashes please cast on seven seas

One Single Impression: Ocean

This is my first attempt at writing prose poems. It is harder than I thought and I need to study some more about them. I did want to post my water episodes at this time. What you see is what you get (for now). Sorry.

(Jim wading on the beach at Saint John, U.S. Virgin Islands—listen to the water)

Ocean Hopping
Watery Visits of Mr. Bod and Little Pinky Toe

I don't know what it would be
not to have experienced the ocean.
As a child growing up
I could only read about it in a book.
Now I've been in most of them,
where that in means swimming,
at least my Pinkie Toe has been there.
Body too went along, some to places
where the Toe never touched or dipped.

Do you need a report from that Pinkie Toe? He's been to the Oceans Atlantic and the Pacific, the Indian and the Arctic. Missing from these Pinkie Toe traverses is the Ocean Southern. He's about to fix that. Matter of fact he would like stick the little Pinkie end right into those icy waters and onto the ice at the South Pole.

The mystical visits of Mr. Bod,
wistfully looked upon by Pinkie Toe,
and very seldom dipped by the latter,
have been to most of the seas of the world.
All the major seas such as,
Arabian Sea,
Baltic Sea,
Bering Sea,
Black Sea,
Caribbean Sea,
East China Sea,
Gulf of Mexico,
Hudson Bay,
Mediterranean Sea,
Red Sea, and
South China Sea.
Little Pinkie Toe, you will have to Google
the ones you can't remember.

Little Pinkie Toe thinks shoes are for the birds. Flip flops are the object of lustful sinning voyeurs. For sure he will holler loudly through his bunion if he misses these three; the Andaman Sea, the Sea of Japan, and the Sea of Okhotsk.

Both Pinkie Toe and funny Mr. Bod
have visited the Sea of Galilee
and the Dead Sea. Neither wanted
to dig around in the muck
at the bottom of the latter.

Bones and ashes down there lie,
burned
and
buried.

That's according to our Good Book.
Our tour guide thought they were,
was this a majority of one?

Grocery Store Search for Blue -- MidWeek Blues -- May I help you please?

I like blues, I like trucks, I like Merlot
Looking for blue truck wine gives me the blues
On bottles I find pink trucks and white trucks
Wonder why there aren't any blue trucks though

Barefoot Merlot and Barefoot Chardonnay
Each an excellent California wine
Just one thing wrong, neither kind is a truck
Comes in blue labeled bottle, what the hey

Cheaper by the Dozen is a nice play
My friend's dog, Harley, has a leading role
These small bottles seem to be fun to drink
Comes in blue box, Merlot or Chardonnay

Here's a little switch, blue bottle, blue wine
It's not the real thing, no truck to be seen
Worse yet, it's 'Flavored Apple Wine Product'

No way for me, ain't going to be mine

One Single Impression: Windows

Windows Everywhere

Windows, windows--windows everywhere
it's getting late let's play pour some wine
monster, monsters--antics give us fear
they're peeking in we can't tolerate

Windows, windows--windows everywhere
those neighbor kids peeping Toms them all
caught in the act bastards found us rare
here's our defense buy curtains first call

Windows, windows--windows everywhere
shoot them tonight buckshot in the arse
they called the cops no way would they scare
it's all a farce law won't give a hoot

Windows, windows--windows everywhere
beams through the glass supper's on the plate
hear my defense home is our castle
bigamist caught I.D. spelled my fate

Windows, windows--windows hard to find
everyone sees can't hide one small act
holler and curse the noise blows my mind
they kept the key I see through the gate
